WILLIAM F. MIELER, MD

William F. Mieler, MD, has joined our faculty as Professor, Vice-Chairman, and Director of the Ocular Oncology service.  Dr. Mieler is an expert on treatment of diseases of the macula, retina and vitreous, as well as surgical management of ocular injuries and treatment of intraocular tumors.  He comes to the IEEI from the University of Chicago, where he was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology.  He has served as Chairman and Associate Executive Director of the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO), and he is currently an Emeritus Director.  Dr. Mieler has received several honors from the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) including the Honor Award, The Senior Honor Award, and the Lifelong Education for the Ophthalmologist Award.  He also continues to serve on the AAO Council and Subspecialty Day Committee.   Dr. Mieler also serves on several committees in the American Board of Medical Specialists (ABMS).  He has published over 290 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 60 book chapters, and he serves on several ophthalmology journal editorial boards.  He has also been consistently recognized on one of the Best Doctors in America.
